Women's Money Matters Seeks Volunteers to Meet Growing Need for Financial Wellness Programs

When: Mar. 16, 12:00PM
Where: Virtual Info Session

Description

Women's Money Matters, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit that empowers women and girls living on low incomes to improve their financial health, is seeking volunteer coaches and presenters across Eastern Massachusetts to support a surge in demand for its free financial wellness programs. The nonprofit is recruiting volunteers in Middlesex, Suffolk, Essex, and Norfolk Counties as recent federal cuts to SNAP and Medicaid have left thousands of Massachusetts families without critical safety net support. In Massachusetts, nearly 1 in 9 women live in poverty, and for women of color, that number climbs to 1 in 5. Recent federal cuts to SNAP and Medicaid have compounded that stress.

Women's Money Matters offers free, group-based financial wellness programs that combine financial health workshops, peer support, and personalized one-to-one coaching. WMM's programs don't just provide financial concepts. They build the confidence and habits that lead to lasting change. It's not just about knowing how to manage money, but ultimately gaining confidence and feeling in control of your financial life.

Concord Art Presents: HomagesCurated by Crystalle LacoutureApril 2, 2026 - May 10, 2026

When: Apr. 2, 10:00AM
Where: 37 Lexington Road, Concord

Description

Concord, MA - Beginning Thursday, April 2, Concord Art presentsHomages, curated by Crystalle Lacouture. The exhibition will be on view through May 10. Homages brings together artists whose work honors the “masterworks” and historical movements that preceded them, or uses the act of tribute
to elevate the humble and everyday into something worthy of praise. There are memorials and remembrances, references to the Dutch masters and Joseph Cornell, to rock music and masterpieces, to feminist artists at the vanguard, to the stories we all share and the writers, thinkers, and movements that still move us today. There are also works that honor, elevate, and transform familiar and often humble, quotidian materials into the realm of art. In offering these tributes, the artists create a generously inclusive vision — one in which the work becomes a collaboration not only with the beholder, but with the very sources that inspired it. Together, maker, viewer, and muse become allies in deepening an intangible experience, adding a new contribution to the long, layered timeline of history.

Artists featured in this exhibition include Brett Angell, Willie Binnie, Jenny Brillhart, Hillary Doyle, Tory Fair, Emily Hass, Lu Heintz, Crystalle Lacouture, Limited Time Engagement (Caira Art Editions), Cathy Della Lucia, S. Billie Mandle, Dogwood Messer, Allison Reimus, Jill Slosburg-Ackerman, Zainab Sumu (Caira Art Editions), and Joe Wardwell.

A catalog of the exhibition will be available at Concord Art. For more information, contact Executive Director Kate James at katejames@concordart.org or Assistant Director Natalie Reiser at
nataliereiser@concordart.org. You may also call Concord Art at 978-369-2578.

ArtSpace Presents “Hats in Bloom”, an Exhibition of Artworks Inspired by Sculptural Hats

When: Apr. 10, 10:00AM
Where: 15 Nason Street, Maynard

Description

ArtSpace’s Barbara Erwin Gallery is pleased to announce Hats in Bloom, a unique exhibition that invited artists to begin not with a blank canvas, but with a hat. Featuring the imaginative designs of ArtSpace member and milliner Denise Shea of Denishé Hats, the exhibition explores how unexpected objects can ignite artistic creativity across a wide range of media.

To begin the creative process, twenty-one ArtSpace artists selected one of eight Denishé hats as their inspiration for a new artwork. Sometimes called “fascinators,” Shea’s hats are known for their sculptural forms, playful details, and whimsical personalities. Some artists echo the hats’ shape, while others draw from their color, texture, or the narratives they suggest. The resulting artworks reflect a rich diversity of interpretations through paintings, photography, ceramics, handmade books, collage, and prints. Displayed together, the hats and artworks present a compelling visual dialogue and a testament to creative transformation through craftsmanship and imagination.

Hats in Bloom is on view April 10-May 28, 2026. The ArtSpace Barbara Erwin Gallery is located at 15 Nason Street, Maynard, MA. Hours: Wednesday and Thursday 10am-3pm, Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 12-5pm. More information about ArtSpace programs and membership can be found at artspacema.org.

Reading of Sinclair Lewis’ It Can’t Happen HerePlanned for April 30

When: Apr. 30, 7:00PM
Where: 327 Concord Rd, Sudbury

Description

In 1935, Sinclair Lewis looked at the situation in Europe and the popularity of Louisiana politician Huey Long, and published a novel, It Can’t Happen Here, a cautionary tale on authoritarianism and the rise of fascism in America. A year later, Lewis and John Moffitt adapted the novel into a play with the same title. Since then, a reading version of the play, first created for radio, has been developed.

That reading, It Can’t Happen Here, will be produced Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Sudbury Meetinghouse at First Parish in Sudbury.

Linda Hench, wife of Representative Carmine Gentile, is spearheading the effort.

“A friend in the Berkshires is coordinating an effort to present this reading in as many communities as possible. I wanted to bring it to Sudbury,” Hench said. “The play runs about 2 hours, but we are just doing Part 1 which runs about an hour, and then we will have a discussion,” facilitated by Katina Fontes, a Goodnow Library trustee and the owner of Athina Books.

The reading is open to the public and admission is free.

The event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Sudbury, First Parish of Sudbury UU, Sudbury Meetinghouse and Athina Books.

It Can't Happen Here is a dystopian novel by Sinclair Lewis that follows the election as President of Berzelius "Buzz" Windrip, a populist U.S. Senator who turns America into a fascist dictatorship. Through the eyes of Vermont newspaper editor Doremus Jessup, the story depicts the rapid dismantling of democracy, the rise of a brutal paramilitary force (the Minute Men), and the subsequent suppression of civil liberties, leading to the imprisonment of critics.

“THE POWER OF ANGELS!”32nd ANNUAL FUNDRAISER & FAIR

When: May. 2, 9:00AM
Where: 106 Ponemah Road (Rt. 122) in Amherst, NH

Description

This May 2nd and 3rd is the 32nd Annual “Power of Angels,” which is a special fundraiser, hosted by Treasures Antiques, Collectables & MORE! to benefit Kitty Angels, Inc., and the excitement is quickly mounting. This fundraising soirée is from 9AM to 5PM, rain or shine, both that Saturday and Sunday and takes place at Treasures Antiques, located at 106 Ponemah Road in Amherst, NH. Heading into this year’s fundraiser, they have surpassed well over $125,000.00 of much needed support for Kitty Angels. With the funds from these fundraisers, they’ve been able to witness hundreds of success stories from and about the cats and kittens who desperately needed someone’s help. Their goal is to continue this endeavor and keep those happy stories coming…and bringing us even closer to getting all the homeless strays and abandoned cats into their own forever homes. They’re forecasting that this year’s event will be the best and most successful fundraiser yet.

The kitties say the vendors are eager to have you get out of the house and visit with them for some tremendous finds, great musical entertainment and most important of all, to help Kitty Angels, Inc.! The weekend festivities are being held at Treasures Antiques, 106 Ponemah Road (Rt. 122) in Amherst. They will have ‘B’s Grumman Grub’ food truck on site which offers a great menu for a unique culinary experience! Also, the crew from Mapledell Farm will be on hand again, showcasing their awesome petting zoo!

The musical entertainment of bands and soloists for the event will consist of “9 Strings” with Dick Spencer and Dan Rodd, Ken McAdams, Roosta Gulla, Sunset Rhythm, Wildwood with Paul & Donna, Jeff Damon, and Side Effects!

As always, featured throughout the fundraising weekend and into the month of June, is a thrilling and interesting raffle of numerous and diverse prizes, all generously donated by local and national businesses, professional sports teams, private individuals and some of the awesome on-site vendors.

Kitty Angels, Inc. is the sole beneficiary of this event. The owners of Treasures have been hosting these fundraisers for this non-profit since 1994. Kitty Angels, Inc. is a community resource, but is not connected with any town or government agency. Although some of their cats come from households which can no longer care for them, the majority of the cats in their care are the very neediest of animals, such as strays or feral (wild) cats, which are in urgent need of medical treatment. Kitty Angels is operated entirely by volunteers who care for the animals, do around-the-clock trapping and field work associated with the control of stray and feral cats, and act as foster care givers for animals that are sick or otherwise in need of special care and attention. While a few of these animals come into the shelter and go out to homes with nothing more than neutering, vaccinations, testing, and a veterinary exam, others receive many hundreds of dollars of veterinary care.

Their adoption program places several hundred cats into new loving homes each year. It also provides them with an opportunity to educate the public about the need for spaying and neutering and caring for their pets. The shelter also supports cats, that due to a variety of reasons, like health issues, can't be adopted out.

They have a low cost spay, neuter program that was initiated a little over six years ago, and, it has become one of their most important programs. The clinic is designed for people who otherwise would not be able to afford spay/neuter. Last year they doubled the number of clinics to twice a month and this year they are doing three clinics almost every month. Despite the additional clinics, the request for assistance has grown and they still have a waiting list. So far, they have spayed/neutered almost four thousand cats, for the public, at this clinic.

Another important part of their mission is to assist the feral population through Trap, Neuter, Return. ‘TNR’ is a humane alternative to euthanasia for managing and reducing feral cat populations. Cats are trapped, sterilized, vaccinated, ear tipped, and returned to the site where they came from. Each cat trapped is evaluated to see if they are stray or feral. Strays are kept and placed for adoption. They continue to monitor and care for many of these ferals in colonies in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Dedicated volunteers feed and provide water every day, watching for any issues with the cats. New cats get trapped and evaluated thereby keeping the numbers from growing. Since their inception over thirty years ago, they have seen the stray and feral populations greatly reduced. Kitty Angels, Inc. a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation.

When: May. 6, 7:00PM
Where: 29 Church Street, Hudson

Description

On Wednesday, May 6, the Assabet Valley Camera Club (AVCC) is pleased to host Frank Jansen, a photographer who enjoys interpreting the world through the infrared spectrum, exploring dimensions of light beyond visible perception. Frank is committed to the photographic community, actively sharing his experimental processes with likeminded photographers. Check out his website https://frank-jansen-photo.com/

Infrared photography captures light outside the visible spectrum creating surreal effects and otherworldly scenes. Frank will guide us through the process from start to finish. Join us for this unique program.

Currently, AVCC meetings are using a hybrid approach where members can meet either in person or via Zoom. If you are interested in attending the program, contact AVCC at avcc.digital@hotmail.com a few days prior to the meeting to request a link to the event or to let us know you will be attending in person. Guests are welcome to attend up to two consecutive club meetings prior to becoming a member. For a description of full membership benefits, please go to: https://www.assabetvalleycameraclub.com/Club/MembershipInfo.aspx The club’s Zoom room opens at 7:00 PM with a brief business meeting at 7:15. Frank’s presentation will begin at 7:30.

AVCC in-person meetings are held at the Hudson Senior Center, 29 Church Street, Hudson. The first meeting of the month generally features a program designed to instruct and/or to entertain camera enthusiasts. During the second monthly meeting, a competition of members’ digital images is judged and critiqued by qualified individuals. Assabet Valley Camera Club, affiliated with both the New England Camera Club Council (NECCC) and the Photographic Society of America (PSA), participates in inter-club competitions on regional, national and international levels.

AVCC welcomes anyone interested in learning more about photography as a visual art and its practical application as a science to become members. Cliff Eberhardt Brings Great Melodies & Lyrical Twists to Westford

When: May. 8, 7:30PM
Where: 10 Lincoln Street, Westford

Description

Nationally known and revered singer/songwriter Cliff Eberhardt is coming to Westford for a stop at the Parish Center for the Arts (10 Lincoln Street) on May 8 at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $20 for Members and $22 for Non-Members in advance; $25 at the door (if available). Seating will be cabaret-style, so pack your snacks and beverages, and plan to arrive when doors open at 7pm to guarantee your favorite seat. Visit pcawestford.org for tickets and more information.

Cliff Eberhardt knew by age seven that he was going to be a singer and songwriter. Growing up in Berwyn (PA), he and his brothers sang together and their parents played instruments. His dad introduced him to the guitar and he quickly taught himself to play. Fortunate enough to live close to the Main Point (one of the best folk clubs on the East Coast), he cut his teeth listening to the likes of James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, and Mississippi John Hurt — receiving an early and impressive tutorial in acoustic music. At the same time, he was also listening to great pop songwriters like Cole Porter, the Gershwins, and Rodgers and Hart, which explain his penchant for great melodies and clever lyrical twists. After a successful whirlwind of a career in the industry, in 2021, Cliff released "Knew Things" - a new album of original songs which reached #4 on the Folk Alliance International's Folk Radio Chart. Touring constantly, Cliff is well-known as a songwriting teacher all over the U.S. at songwriting camps and private lessons. He also produces, arranges and advises on other artist's recordings. Learn more about Cliff online at cliffeberhardt.net. Cabaret Seating. BYOB & Snacks.

The PCA Coffeehouse Series is generously sponsored by Rockland Trust.
